Over Simplification

We have all heard of a common phrase that goes as below,

The ability to simplify means to eliminate the unnecessary so that the necessary may speak.(Hans Hoffman).

Was just wondering whether sometimes oversimplifying things leads to a generalisation, which might lead to a blurry edge. Now am I over complicating or generalising ??
